The Role of Practice in Writing

Here’s a great blog post (I recommend subscribing to this blog, by the way) about the nature and value of writing practice. It doesn’t mean the same thing as morning pages, though those are valuable, too, for different reasons.

For Day 8 of NaPoWriMo, Donna Sadd challenges us to write about growing.

Here in western Colorado, spring is brutal, dramatic, and irresistable. I can’t leave it alone as a subject. So here’s my poem about growing:

Growing

Through a rotting

tangle of last year’s

pale blades,

new shoots

struggle up

toward the light,

young and hopeful

they tinge

fallow fields

an incomparable

green.
